Land slide - susceptibility zones
Hazard zone mapping of landslides in steep terrain is performed by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate for selected areas prioritised for mapping; ref. Plan for skredfarekartlegging (Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate report 14/2011). Mapping covers the following landslide types: Snow avalanche, slush avalanche, rockfall, debris slide and debris flow.

The primary target group is municipal and private spatial planners and case managers at municipal, regional and governmental level who work with emergency response, spatial planning and building applications. The maps are an important resource for the work of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate on spatial planning, landslide prevention and general emergency response. The data is suitable for use for planning, civil protection and emergency response.

The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate's mapping is aimed primarily at existing development. When identifying and prioritising areas, emphasis is therefore placed on where people live and spend time within areas that are potentially at risk of landslides. Priority lists have been compiled for hazard mapping for every landslide type, ref. Plan for skredfarekartlegging, chapter 6. When mapping hazard zones, priority 1 areas will normally be mapped first, followed by priority 2 areas. As a result of this, areas with high priority for multiple landslide types could also obtain overall higher priority. It will be possible to downgrade areas that could appear to have already been mapped or secured sufficiently, or even to remove them from the priority list. In the same way, new landslide events and data recordings could lead to a higher priority.
