Depth data - coverage
(**There is an ongoing quality enhancement of datasets and related services. Downloadable files are not yet available.**)
The dataset provides an overview over chartered/surveyed areas of the Norwegian sea areas. Bathymetry has been collected over a long period, by various actors and with different equipment. In the attribute table of the dataset, there are details such as the year of measurement, mapping method, data owner/which actor collected the data, equipment, echo sounder type, specification, and resolution.
The content of the dataset is based on available data from the Norwegian Mapping Authority.

- Specific usage
-
The dataset can be used to get an overview of available bathymetry, for example to use in planning activities in a specific area. By using the information available in the attribute table, one can gain insights into the quality and suitability of the bathymetric data.
Newer data is considered to be of the best quality, as it has mainly been collected using multibeam echo sounders, while older data has been collected with singlebeam echo sounders or other older equipment.
The dataset can also be used for maps, presentations, various analyses, or as a basis for decision-making.

The dataset is based on the Norwegian Mapping Authority's overview of the coverage of surveyed areas. The data set is divided into polygons, where each polygon represents a survey mission and shows the extent of the surveyed area. The different surveys are identified with a unique and persistent ID, which is used as an identifier for the specific individually survey.
