General Marine Biotopes (raster)
The map shows the predicted distribution of general biotopes in the areas examined with video until 2019. Biotopes are areas with distinctive benthic animal communities and a similar physical environment. Each biotope usually has a unique composition of species. Which species these are is determined by the environmental conditions in the area.

The species living on the sea floor is not evenly distributed, but occur in patches related to various environmental and bottom types or habitats. This distribution is important to know in order to manage the seabed in the most sustainable way.

The biotope map also covers some areas that were mapped in 2020, but so far video observations from 2020 have not been included in the modelling. The interpretation basis for this data is detailed digital depth data, geological interpretations of seabed sediments, distribution of marine species and a number of hydrological parameters.

- Statement
-
Mareano uses multivariate statistics and spatial modeling for classification, modeling and predicted distribution of the biotopes. Based on quantitative video observations of seabed fauna using TWINSPAN analysis, 43 biotopes were identified in the area. These are represented as point data classified by biotope in the accompanying point map. Geological, morphological and oceanographic variables are used as predictor variables to model and predict the spatial extent of the various biotopes using a Random Forest model that connects point observations and predictor variables.
